On picking up several viruses over the last few days and managing to get rid of all the nasties (or so we thought) we have now noticed this file running in the background called lsass.exe.  Reading it's description it seems to have an important role in the running of the computer but also states that there is a file under the same name but is a virus called Backdoor.Futro.

Checking the Norton virus list, it tells us not to confuse it with the file Lsass.exe.

On checking the registry, lsass.exe is listed alphabetically in the "L" section -  other files starting with an L are in capitals whereas lsass.exe starts in lower case.

Can anyone advise us as to wether in fact lsass.exe is a virus or wether it's OK.  We're now a bit confused.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Hello,

If lsass.exe is among the files beginning with 'L', then there is no need to worry. However, I recommend you to periodically scan your comuter for viruses and spyware.
