| Posted By : jasmine - 7-16-2004 3:33 | | Hi, I need help. I don't have much computer knowledge, so please bear with me as I try to explain what's been happening.
I have been suspecting for awhile that I have a trojan on my computer. In fact, I even thought someone was remotely accessing my computer one day. I only have a computer at work, and I check my personal yahoo account very often during the day. One day, I went to click on one of my website addresses and the mouse was going crazy on the drop down menu. And then the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the page kept moving to the right and as much as I tried I couldn't get it centered. So, I bought the program BOClean and this morning, it detected a "Spystorm Trojan".
The file it said it detected was c:\windows\DOWNLO~1\INSTALL.DLL. I have NO idea what this program does, except I think it's a trojan. The BOClean asked me if I wanted the file removed, and I clicked "Yes". So, I hope I'm ok.
Can anyone tell me anything about this file, or how it may have gotten on my computer, and what exactly it does? The person I suspect who put this on my computer is very very very computer savvy, I have seen him do the remote accessing stuff, and is an ex-boyfriend to boot. He also knows my yahoo email account and has sent pictures recently which I downloaded. I know now that this probably carried in the trojan, but at the time I had no idea. I'm just putting this all together now.
Any help would be appreciated as I feel totally helpless here. Also, any recommendations for other clean up programs you think I need would be great.
thanks so much,

That ex of yours sounds like a jerk! as far as the virus goes do a google seach on it I'm not familiar with it. you did not say what your OS is so can't really recomend av programs for it. can tell you this though norton sucks, macaffe not much better, if your running 98 try AVG, people seem to have good luck with that one. But if your running XP get bullguard and ad-aware 6, that will work. Let me know and good luck.

Yes, the ex is a jerk, to say the least. Control freak is more like it.
I did change my password on my yahoo account, so it should be all set. I looked in my yahoo Inbox and I still have the picture that he sent me, that I believe to be encoded with this trojan. Is there any safe way to verify this? To see if it's carrying the trojan?
Again, thanks so much for your expertise! I really and truely appreciate it.
:)

| Posted By : jasmine - 7-19-2004 3:06 | oh, one more thing Eagle...I did do a google search on this trojan, and not much luck at all as far as a thorough explanation. As far as my operating system, I have windows 2000, if that helps. I am totally computer retarded and don't know what my operating system is. What does AVG and XP stand for?
again, thanks so much, ~Jasmine |

| Posted By : eagle - 7-19-2004 3:34 | Hi Jasmine,
Eagle here, win 2000 is your operating system, XP is another windows operating system, AVG is a antivirus program, but you could use bullguard without much trouble,if any, unfortunatley not real familiar with win 2000, but I believe you can still go to start, run, type in regedit, click ok, brings up the regedit, go to edit key on the top of screen, click on it, highlight the find key, click on it, when the window pops up type in DOWNLO~1, thats all if it's still in there that will find it and pop it up, then highlight that file on the right hand side of the screen and delete it and all associated files. that should help you if not you know where to find me. keep me posted. good luck and start blocking his emails or he could put somethng worse in there next time, one other thing you might want to talk to some one about him being so controlling, that personality can be obsessive and can turn violent.

| Posted By : jasmine - 7-19-2004 4:13 | Hi Eagle, I did what you said, I went to regedit and typed in that file and it came up in a list of other stuff, and I deleted that file. On the left side, there was a icon labeled "h" that was assigned to it. I don't know what that means, do you? But I deleted it. I also deleted files labeled 101.exe and 101.pas because when I did a search for SpyStorm trojan, it said that these files were associated with this trogan. I hope that I'm ok now.
Thanks for the advice regarding this guy, I think it's time to talk to someone about his behavior before something else happens.
I will keep you posted. :) ~jasmine |
