I run Pale Moon x64 Portable on my two systems. There is no BG Extension or Plug-in present.
Browsing is fully protected - attached is a screenshot of a drive-by attack living on a media site; all I did was click on a link in a referring site.
In my experience search links are scanned on supported engines under http (not https) protocol.
With consideration of the benefits of Pale Moon as well as my layered security schema, for me the issue of any BG Add-ins is moot. Your opinion my differ. FYI: I also run Bit Defender's Traffic Light extension and Adblock Plus with the DNS-BH Malware blocklist.
