Hi all,
       I have a real problem that is worrying me silly being a woman I do panic when I see anything not right I would dearly love some help and advice here goes.  I run Norton Internet Security 2006 edition on my computer which is Windows XP Home Edition.  Only two days ago I get a message saying 'Norton Antivirus 2006 was unable to start instant messenger scanner.  It will be unable to scan instant messenger downloads for infections'  I tried there advice and did a full system scan and downloaded all updates to still get this message appearing.  I went onto the support forum and straight away they told me there would be a charge for this service.  I am very worried and angry also I only just renewed my subscription to Norton a month ago.  I am prepared to delete my hard drive and remove my anti virus altogether, please help this lady in distress anyone? cry Rachel x

Start from – Preparation.
If you are still encountering problems, follow the instructions below to post a hijackthis log :



1. Get newest Hijackthis from http://danborg.org/spy/hjt/alternativ.exe
Another name for Hijackthis exe

2 Install it in a PERMANENT folder! Example : c:\hijackthis\

3 Run hijackthis.  (alternativ exe).

Choose the "Do a system scan and save a log file" option to perform your scan.
HijackThis will analyze your system, and automatically open a notepad textfile containing the HijackThis log when the scan is finished.
Open the text files containing the logs with a text editor and click Edit -> Select All, followed by Edit -> Copy.
From within the browser window and with the message body text box selected, click Edit -> Paste.
 
 
    
     Post hijackthis  log here

I had that problem because i uploaded msn instant messenger 5.0 and higher.After unnistall latest msn messenger and instaled  version 4.7 ,the allerts stop coming.Norton antivirus 2006 is not supporting latest Msn messengerskull.
If you haven't msn messenger 4.7 or 4.6 ,you need download  some,because Norton antivirus require Msn Instant messengerfreaked!

Hi rachelconfused,
It's allways very fussy to have Norton Antivirus on your system.Please get it uninstalled, remove it completely i.e. any related update service what so ever.
