Hello all, i have a serious problem and i needed to know if i would be able to remove this virus myself FOR SURE. My norton antivirus 2003 has detected a trjoan horse virus, it also says something like "unable to be repaired", when i ran the scan it was also unable to repair and delete it. What should I do? I looked on symantecs.com but im not really sure what to do?
Can someone help my step by step or in lamest terms so i can remove it. Can it be removed first i may add. Lastly, is there software that i can/should get that also would remove it and/or protect from Trojans. Thanks Alot
exactly what should i do in safe mode and will this work. Also how do i delete the file from the command prompt, what should i type in? And what is mks_vir_2004? Thanks
what version of windows are you using, that could make a difference if it's not a 9x then you could use bullguard, but if it is 98 then be leary of it. as far as the file you can go into regedit an do it. but still need the name of the file. also would not hurt if you downloaded a spyware remover try ad-aware 6 it's free and updateable, and removes what it finds. keep me posted.
Go do a google search for ad-aware 6 you've also got spyware. run a custom scanthat will help there. Download bullguards 60 day free trial that couldn't hurt, but uninstall norton first. You do that by going into control panel add/remove programs, highlight norton (or symantec) click change/remove. that should do oh you need to restart your computer when you do the uninstall. good luck and keep me posted.
Ok after doing what eagle suggested I would also do these things.
go here http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10122137.html?part=104443&subj=dlpage&tag=button and download spybot make sure you run the update feature before scanning.
then you may want to downloand and run this program and post the log file here so we can see what is going on with your pc. http://209.133.47.12/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe
If you know the name of the file or files that are infected you can delete them usually in safe mode. Easiest way to get to safe mode in my opinion in WinXp is to click on the start button then click on Run type MSCONFIG in there and then hit enter. ONce that comes up click on the BOOT.INI tab and place a check int he safeboot prompt might also want to place a check next to nextwork so you will be able to download programs if needed. then click apply and close. You will be asked to reboot it will automatically bring you into safemode.
To get out of safemode follow the same procedure but go to the general tab which is the default tab and click the normal boot option. Please don't change anything else with this utility as you may mess your machine up.
If you do use spybot, make sure you read the help files so you configure it right, cause if you don't some programs go bye bye that you need.

Happened to me Cause I got sloppy and did not read, I suggested ad-aware 6 because (no offense Martz) not real familiar with software of this type. If i'm wrong martz please tell me don't want to offend.
hmm not derail this thread but what programs did you mess up I have never had anything mess up on mine. But then I dont run much on there either, just office, and a proprietary software package
It took out a application used to speed up my dial up connection(out here it's all we can get) provided by my ISP, Which in turn screwed up my IE6. It even took out some of my ad-aware file but they said that could cause problems. some of my application .exe files so I would not have to wait 100 years for it to download again. that's about it.
