Project1 is associated with those annoying mmov popups.  It can simply be removed by deleting the suspected executable file:

*.exe

(some known files are mmrj.exe and exe82.exe)

from your Windows directory.  (Sometimes in your system or system32 dir)

The file can be found in your SECTION 4 of your Hijackthis log.

BcG, messed up computa, and msori - your trojan appears to be the mmrj.exe as found in your log in Section 04

If you dont see mmrj.exe or exe82.exe, look for other suspiciously named executable files in your 04 Section on the Hijackthis log.  Again, they will typically be in your Windows, System, or System32 directory.  If you see a suspicious entry, copy it, google it.  If it comes up with no matches, chances are, that's your problem.  MOST VALID processes have definitions listed so we don't delete them!  Good luck!

You can also remove the startup options in msconfig and delete the entries out of your registry.  Remember to always backup your registry before editing it just in case!!!

These trojans are associated with MediaMotor Trojan group.

This startup entry is started automatically from a Run, RunOnce, RunServices, or RunServicesOnce entry in the registry

Hello, just removed Project1 from my computer. I tried several spyware scans in safe mode but nothing. The program still reappeared on restart. I noticed after one restart that Ctrl-Alt-Delete bringing up Windows task manager, going to Applications revealed that Project1 was actually running "again". Right clicking on Project1 and selecting "go to Process" It took me to the process page which showed "Start-up; Adobe Gamma loader.exe. After running Hijack this I deleted Adobe Gamma loader.exe. Problem solved!!!
Hope this helps!!!

Later, J :)

Hi oneandonly,

1. NetDotNet is installed in your system if you didn't installed it, you need to remove it. But before you do that as a precaution, please download LSPFix.exe.
When removing New.Net from your system there is a chance that you might lose your internet
connection.
In the event that you lose Internet access after removing New.Net, please double-click LSPFix.exe that downloaded earlier. You will see 2 panels. If there is any file listed in the "Remove" panel on the right-side, leave it as is and just click "Finish" then reboot your computer, this should restore your
internet access.
Please download LSPFix here: http://www.cexx.org/LSPFix.exe

Now please go Start > Run > Control Panel
In the Add/Remove programs list, look for
NewDotNet or New.Net and uninstall it.
If NewdotNet or New.Net is not listed in Add/Remove programs list, then please go to their site.
Scroll down to Procedure no.4 and follow the instructions in removing NewDotNet from your system.
http://www.newdotnet.com/removal.html

2. Please, download Brute Force Uninstaller:
http://www.merijn.org/files/bfu.zip
and unzip it to it’s own folder on the desktop.
Run the program and click the Web button located on the top right corner
Copy and Paste the below web address into the address bar of the Download script window:

Checkmark the following boxes:
*Use settings specified in script for the above option
*Show log after script ends
Execute the script by clicking the Execute button.
Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

3. Fix these entries:(some entries may no longer exist don't worry)

Later, J :)

Hey. Are you sure this works? I got exactly the same thing. The Project1 thing is connected to the Adobe Gamma Loader (I right-click on the Project1 in Windows Task Manager and Go To Process - and the process is Adobe Gamma Loader). Should I just simply delete Adobe Gamma Loader (note - I don't have Photoshop, just Acrobat Reader)

Here's my Hijackthis log just in case. Thanks for the help.

Hi Schlaura,
You have Look2me, qoologic, Alcan, purityscan, infections to start with. Combofix, it should take care most of the nasties.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

2. Go to your add/remove programs and look for any program by OIN and uninstall it.
If you do not see any icon for "OIN" or "(program) by OIN" in Add/Remove Programs, please download their stand-alone uninstaller.
http://www.outerinfo.com/OiUninstaller.exe.

3. After you've done both the above:
Please, download ewido anti-spyware
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
and save that file to your desktop. This is a 30 day trial of the program
1. Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
2. Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
3. On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
*Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
4. Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
5. Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
6. Under "Reports"
*Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
*Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet.

* Reboot your computer into SafeMode.
You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while Ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
* Launch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
* Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
* Ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
* If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
* Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
* Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
* Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the ewido report scan.

Please also post a fresh Hijackthis log, you still have remaining issues/nasties to deal with afterwards.

Bullguard's spam filter wouldn't let me post before so I sent you a pm instead, please reply if your system restore is turned on and try rolling back to a date before you were infected, or if you are able to download Avenger.
If not, then you will have to do a lot of manual deletion of files.

let me know also if you are able to download Killbox or if you already have it.

Ok - I was able to do everything you asked me to, except I was unable to run Ewido in Safe Mode...I tried double clicking, right clicking and selecting "open" and "run scan" and opening from my start menu.  Nothing worked, so I ran Ewido in regular mode.  Here is my log files you asked for...Thanks for your help.  I see the "project 1" is off my taskbar now...Is there anything else I should do?

Schlaura,

You didn't answer any of my questions.

Please fix these entries:
O2 - BHO: Ozbyq Class - {D623BC2F-A58D-4A75-A10D-CC244A702A35} - C:\WINNT\system32\xeymi.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E5E2A3E7-00FE-4D31-A030-A10799DDCA66} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [webHancer Survey Companion] "C:\Program Files\webHancer\Programs\whSurvey.exe"
O16 - DPF: {B64F4A7C-97C9-11DA-8BDE-F66BAD1E3F3A} -
http://download.cdn.winsoftware.com/files/installers/cab/WinAntiVirusPro2006FreeInstall.cab
O18 - Filter: text/html - {B5F86455-BF18-4E12-965A-6642A0AC0549} - C:\WINNT\system32\xeymi.dll
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c:\winnt\system32\ntvdm.dll regedit.dll

I don't know if you run the OIN uninstaller but these files below that belongs to them are still showing in your log:
You need to delete these files or use Killbox's to delete them all in one go.
c:\winnt\system32\ntvdm.dll
c:\winnt\system32\regedit.dll

After that try running Ewido again in Safe Mode please.

Sorry for my confusion...I fixed the entries above - I ran the OIN uninstaller twice (once before your recent message and once again after) - I downloaded Killbox but it was unable to find those two files so I deleted them manually. Ewido will not run in safe mode for me. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still no luck. Here is my most recent log file after I followed the above directions (except running Ewido).

Can you please post the combofix log?

Uninstall WebHancer  or WebHancer Survey Companion from add/remove programs if listed there.
C:\Program Files\webHancer <-- delete this folder if still present.
C:\WINNT\system32\xeymi.dll <-- must delete this file.

Run either of these online scanners and post panda's log.

Schlaura,

those 2 lines that panda didn't disinfect you can just manually delete:
c:\winnt\smdat32m.sys
c:\program files\MyWay

Are you still having problems?

All the major issues and freezes are gone - thank you!  The only issue now, is when I boot my computer - a warning message pops open that reads: "The drive or network connection that the shortcut 'TrueAssistant.lnk' refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and then try again."

Schlaura,

Run hijackthis again and put a check next to this entry and click "Fix Checked":
O4 - Startup: TrueAssistant.lnk = C:\Program Files\TrueAssistant\TrueAssistant.exe

That should fix the error at startup, somehow the TrueAssistant's link to start at startup is broken, fixing that entry should fix the error.
