It comes up with a fake spyware protection screen and w/ fake scanning and warnings. A small balloon opens in the bottom right corner (next to clock). Stating the followin; 'file 00thotkey.exe is infected by w32/blaster.worm. Please activate spyware protection to protect your computer.' Please advise as if this is known to anyone else, as a search has revealed nothing useful. Additionally, I am resorted to using my iPhone for communications. So please take into consideration that all info via Internet transfer to my pc will not be possible as Internet exes are not operating. I await some much needed help. Zan Back to Top

Hello Zan
Reboot to safe mode with network. You should be able to do the below there.
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html to your desktop. Double-click mbam-setup and follow the prompts to install the program. At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan , then click Scan. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
NB. If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.
Post malwarebyte log, along with hijackthis log in next reply.
BTW . Do not post Ccleaner log.
Do not PM me with logfiles. They will be deleted.

The Internet is not available to connect to. My internet connections are via USB and it seems these ports are not accessible. [question: my dwsktop only displays 'safe mode' not 'safe mode with network', is this correct?] However, I will perform the the HJT & the MBAM checks and save the logs. I have performed the MBAM check and it did not find any items. It was last updated, 29 Apr 2010. ( I know I'm being difficult... My apologies) I would try to save the logs to an accessible folder to iTunes for txfer but this also seems unlikely. Any suggestions to get them to my iPhone? Back to Top
zanitose New Member Date Joined May 2007 Total Posts : 17 Posted 12/30/2010 4:25 PM (GMT +3) Okay... The update and logs; I went into safe mode and played with MBAM a little and found some nefarious little executable programs listed in my start up menu. After researching and deleting them, I restarted and the program (virus) was still running. It did however allow for Super Anti Spyware to see the program the was running. It was called DEFENDER.exe. It was everywhere. In the sys32 folder, windows temp, My docs, Windows main... you name it. It was there. I've done a full CC Cleanup and am in the process of updating MBAM and then running another scan. I'll post the new logs after this for reference and discussion. Here are the ones that I did earlier at the peak of the problem. Unfortunately, you are running AVG and that fights with Combofix. So now , to prevent damage to your system, Combofix will no longer allow itself to run on a computer where AVG is installed and active. It's your choice whether you want to uninstall AVG and use another anti virus. Avast offers a free AV here: http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download
Please download combofix: Here
Save it to Desktop.
Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, they may otherwise interfere with Combofix.
There are details for disabling many programmes: Here
Now, please make sure no other programs are running, close all other windows.
Please double click on the file you downloaded. Follow the onscreen prompts to start the scan. Once the scanning process has started please DO NOT click on the Combofix window or attempt to use your computer as this can cause the scanning process to stall. It may take a while to complete scanning and this is normal. You will be disconnected from the internet and your desktop icons/toolbars will disappear during scanning, do not worry, this is normal and it will be restored after scanning has completed. Combofix will create a logfile and display it after your computer has rebooted.
Usually located in c:\combofix.txt, please post it to your next reply
The logs will be reasonably large so you may have to divide them into sections and make several posts to post them.
Do not PM me with logfiles. They will be deleted.
