Greetings--

I am a novice at trying to keep my computer clean.  Recently, when trying to view one of my favorite sites (www.fixedgeargallery.com), I have been redirected to a nasty porn site.  I have decided that after several years of having roommates and letting them use my computer, there is probably a lot of crap that I should clean off of my computer.  can anyone help me do this?  any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Hey tito cool

Post a logfile.

Put HJT in a permanent folder.
Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" .Put your HijackThis.exe there, and double click to run it.
Push - Do a systemscan and save a logfile - button
and Highlight the Entire Log by pressing Ctrl+A and Copy it. Post log here

Thanks Touch. I'll see if I can get the logfile up.
I should mention that I saw a previous thread regarding the same subject and downloaded all the programs it mentioned (Dr. Delete, Ad-aware, etc.) , but I do not know how to use them.

Hey
Just delete Dr delete, I don´t use it;-)
Take some scans first
Please download:

Download this scanner – mwav exe http://www.spywareinfo.dk/download/mwav.exe

Please go offline

Reboot into Safe Mode -  Hit F8 key untill menu shows up
Run the mwav scanner:
Put a checkmark in:

Memory, Startup folders, drive, Registry, System folders og Services.
And:
All local drives og Scan all files
Push:  Scan  Button
The scan can take a couple of hours

Spybot, click on the Immunize button. Then "Scan System" button. Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, and click - Check for Problems. Once the scan is complete, have SpyBot remove all it finds marked in RED.

Adware
Click Start and on the next screen choose:
In settings under 'scanning,' have it set to
'scan within archives,'
'scan active processes,'
'scan registry,'
'deepscan registry'
'scan my IE Favourites for banned URL's,'
'scan my host's file.'
In 'tweaks' under 'scanning engine' set it to 'unload recognised processes during scanning.'
Also in 'tweaks' under 'cleaning engine' set it to 'Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion' & 'let Windows remove files in use at next reboot.'
Select 'activate in-depth scan' before starting scan.
When the scan is finished select 'next.'
Remove what it finds by placing a check in the box to the left of the object. Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish.
When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click on any of the entries and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next.
Reboot
Go to Start | Run and type: cleanmgr.exe and hit enter.
When prompted what drive to clean select your hard drive c:
If asked what folders to clean in a list, tick them all to clean all temp folders, downloaded program folders, temporary internet files, etc., and the recycle/trash bin.
