A LOT OF HIJACKED DOMAIN FILES????
thebanshee New Member Date Joined Feb 2005 Total Posts : 17 Posted 8-4-2006 9:11 (GMT +1) Hya, After running all programmes, ie, adaware, etc as asked I ran a hi-jack this check and the log is below, however, a message popped up informing me that I had a lot of hijacked domain files and did mention deleting the host file. Could someone translate this into everyday lingo so that a thicko like myself can understand a little better the problem/s at hand. Many thanks, :o) Back to Top

Install Ewido Anti-Malware
Double-click the icon on Desktop to launch Ewido
You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
On the top of the main screen click Shield
Click the word active to change it to inactive
On the top of the main screen click Update .
Then click on Start Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Run full scan with Ewido
Click Scanner
Click on the Scan tab
Click Complete System Scan to begin scanning.
When the scan is complete click Recommended Action and change it to Quarantine
Then click Apply all actions
Once finished, click the Save report button, then click Save Report As . This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop). Close ewido security suite.
Note: DO NOT USE the computer while Ewido is scanning. If Explorer or the Control Panel are opened some malware types will reinfect your system or will not be cleaned properly. Download and run:
CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp It removes unnecessary junk from your computer allowing it to run more efficiently and securely.
You may get more optimal cleaning if you run it in
SAFEMODE – while rebooting and at the beep keep tapping the F8 key.
Once installed, you will notice an Online Help link at the bottom left. An [/b]Updates [/b]checking link is provided at the bottom right.
When first run in its DEFAULT opening setup –
Cleaner Settings (Windows TAB is selected) :
Uncheck ‘Cookies’ option (advisable)
Click the ‘Analyse’ button.
Thereafter, click ‘Run Cleaner’ after you have reviewed what it proposes to clean.
Post the latest logs for HijackThis and EWIDO.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
Please start your own thread by clicking the new topic button. Do NOT post your problem in someone elses thread.

I use the usual Spybot, Adaware and AVG but I was so impressed with Avast that AVG has now been uninstalled - (Avast seemed to find about six or seven other viruses hidden away) - anyway, we'll see if things run a little smoother and faster now. Top site - good advice - Nice people :0) Back to Top
