This is the first time I've managed to get through to the Forum. slow and unstable behaviour + suspicious inability to get through to this Bullguard site, to annotate:
:I'm running XP pro, v2002,256mb, I'm fairly new to computers but am catching up all the time.
:24 hrs ago PC started to become shaky, not revealing pictures on pages, becoming inexplicably slow on some sights and on file/folder movements etc.
Ran Bullguard scan - came up with trojan dialler, quarantined+Deleted, Scanned again, No virus just password protected C:\documents....
I'd start up in Safe Mode (before windows kicks in, hit F5 or F8, I always forget which one, and go into Safe Mode. No services outside of the basic ones will start, and you *should* be able to get into Bullguard to run a full scan. Once you do that, assuming it's found, quarantined, tied up, beaten, and thrown down some stairs, you should be able to reboot and get into the updates so you can update your definitions. After that, do another full-scan. Hope this helps!
Just to add, Its F8 ( i always forget ) and you will have to restart the computer without safe mode to connect to the internet, after then i advise putting it back into safe mode and scan again

Apologies for delay in replying, combination of being offline + work has taken my time, However,,In addition to advice [gratefully accepted] I'd add/emphasise-
1] ALWAYS switch OFF System Restore before doing that last sweat inducing final scan. It would seem that some cunning virus's/trojans can reactivate from there.
2] Ad-aware6-excellent companion to Bullguard, AVG 6.0 not bad as backup,-- still testing.
3] If all your well laid defences are rendered inoperable then an online scan and removal might solve the problem,-- I found http://housecall.antivirus.com/ invaluable, you can download button to go direct, nb: ensure you fill in correctly as this will lock your pc to your geographical area.
4] Some good advice and downloads Re Windows security can be found at http://www.grc.com, I've found some eye opening info from their scans.
5] Bullguards trial version can confuse, at least I think it's that, Removing it has been difficult and I'm still getting a shadow Bullguard icon appearing in the taskbar alongside real icon, it dissappears when I hover with cursor......... I've read and been told all the negative views/accounts of Bullguard, from my experience this has come about from it's association with Kazaa, which has definately not given it any popularity points. I'm always testing software and I find Bullguard to be Fine and oddly, it's association with Kazaa is what first attracted me,[along with design] I reasoned that if a behemoth like Kazaa used it, it must have some merits and, that's still the case.
Hope some of this might be of use,,, really pleased to see forum developing.
Did you get that version your running from kazza? If you did then I would worry. the advice you've gotten has been great and what you've picked up on your own is excellent but once you've got the virus licked you should not have to keep scanning in safe mode. How familiar are you with regedit? If your not that familiar then please do not go into it but you can delete the virus from there. as far as uninstalling bullguard you can go into control panel to add and remove programs and remove it that way. but remember to restart after removal otherwise you won't remove it. Then go to www.bullguard.com and download there 60 day free trial, that too could elimminate some of your troubles. Also do a disk clean since you have your recovery system off to remove all restore points. that way it cant hide lurking to be reactivated. let me know how it turns out.
1] My innitial experience with Bullguard was through Kazaa and, my problems re; shadow icons and instability may well have come about from my not deleting all of the debris of the defunkt trial version of Bullguard. more later,,,,,,
2] To be honest the whole "RUN" procedure was a bit of an anathema to me. I am currently reading up and experimenting, esp REGEDIT, lots of daunting file script filled screens to get through,,,,
3] Re "Safemode", I haven't managed to activate Bullguard in this mode, However I'd urge everyone to practice you never know when you will need it.
Quite tired at the moment, heavy working day and South African red wine taking their toll.
Re above 1]: The Search facility in my XP pro is frankly bizarre bordering on crap, It isn't difficult to find somthing better,, Agent Ransack http://http://www.snapfiles.com/get/agentransack.. seems to fulfill the role. No hassle ,easy to use, and Stable, I think this helps me find and clear all manner of trails/debris + find what I want.
I looked in on this site about 4/5 days ago but I've been otherwise preoccupied working on Speechwriting {New sidejob} + Blog,,.
Fair amount of ReSearch recently., and from that thinking about starting another thread on Toolbars,,,, We shall see, ,,,,,. That sounded like the South African Wine speaking,
