Hi,

My machine is infected with the Vundo virus and has a Hi-Jack which changes the path of executables in services for auto-update and BIT to a bogus path (%fystemroot%\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs)

I have ran numerous scans with McAfee, Super Anti Spyware, RegCure and MS Malicious Software Removal tool but to no avail. None of the aforementioned software detects a problem at all? The only software I've used so far that can see the infections is Malwarebytes.

This will pick the infections up every time but can not remove or remedy the problems?
Since then I have followed your instructions re things to do before posting an issue e.g. Ran full Anti-virus - CCleaner - MBAM - cleared old JAVA updates - installed new JAVA update - uninstalled uTorrent - ran DDS

I'm now at the point where I have 4 log files ready to submit for your help (Please see below and attached).
Also, just a small note. The machine infected is the Family PC and I don't live at home, so I won't always be able to carry out instructions right away but will endeavor to do them ASAP.

Any help you can offer would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello Leon G and welcome smile

The machine infected is the Family PC and I don't live at home, so I won't always be able to carry out instructions right away but will endeavor to do them ASAP.
No problem, just follow the instructions when it´s convenient.

Please download Combofix from:

 And save to the desktop.

Close all other browser windows.

Double-click on the combofix icon found on your desktop.

Please note, that once you start combofix you should not click anywhere on the combofix window as it can cause the program to stall. In fact, when combofix is running, do not touch your computer at all and just take a break as it may take a while for it to complete.

 When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\combofix.txt.

Post the contents of that log in your next reply

Open notepad and copy/paste the bold text in the codebox below into it:
Name the file as CFScript
and Save it on the desktop

Code:
Killall::
Snapshot::
File::
c:\windows\system32\drivers\e40ea26a.sys
c:\docume~1\LEON\LOCALS~1\Temp\bDMusicb.sys
Driver::
e40ea26a
bDMusicb

Once saved, refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.

Combofix will create a logfile and display it after your computer has rebooted. Usually located in c:\combofix.txt, please post it to your next reply

Note
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Do NOT post your problem in someone elses thread.

Here is the new Combo Fix log file. Not sure if this is really relevant but thought I'd mention it. On this log file it says McAfee was enabled, but I did disable everything before running Combo Fix. Not sure why it was saying it was still enabled?

Also, windows has started to update which is good news. Please let me know if there is anything else you need me to do.

Thanks!

to download HJTinstall.exe
Save HJTinstall.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTinstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Hijack This.
Click I accept
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
 Post hijackthis and tell how things are running ?

Do NOT post your problem in someone elses thread.

Here is the new HiJack This log file. Everything appears to be updating, installing and running perfectly. Is that 'job done'?

Yes, you are good to go    smile

Now your computer problems are solved, it is time for the clean-up procedure
You should Create a New Restore Point to prevent possible reinfection from an old one.
The easiest and safest way to do this is:
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
Select Create a restore point, and Ok it.
Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
Select the More options tab
Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it.

This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.

 Click START then RUN
Now type/copy:  Combofix /Uninstall  in the runbox and click OK.
 Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
The above procedure will:
Delete the following:
ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
VundoFix backups, if present.
The C:\Deckard folder, if present.
The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present.
