(For dreamstress)

Hello dreamstress,

In order to be able to help you, I need you to give me more details on this issue. How exactly is your computer acting, and is the virus still active?

(For wtf)

Please use adequate language for the future. There are many people who ask for help on this forum, and we cannot help them all, but we are doing the best we can.

Best regards,

Andrei Marius Cristof

2 Replies in 1 Packet

FIRST - dreamstress

FYI
I am a 'Virus Newbie' too.  I am PC literate but hijacks & trojans scare the pants off me.  Then I found this forum through searching for the particular virus I had on an old PC.  I looked around and saw a basic set of rules and a pocketful of utils that assist in removal.
I downloaded & ran them & my problem ended.

Now I am helping a friend erase a hijack from his XP based 'puter - again I came to the forum but this time I knew to bring a HijackThis log, taken from a safe mode startup with System Restore turned off & SHOW Hidden Files/Folders ON ( remember the rules I mentioned earlier ).

I appreciate that a quick "post your log" reply would have helped but alas so many probz, so little time, you fell through the cracks.....regretable as this is.

Apart from the HijackThis FIX, most of the utils detect & kill all the baddies without much user interaction, simply click & go.  You did great with Ad-AwareSE, but I have issues with Norton best left for another day.

Annyhoo, enough banter ( & I apologise wholeheartedly if this all sounds in any way patronising, as that is not my intention ), I have a few links courtesy of the nice people on this forum.

Download Mwav (install)
http://www.spywareinfo.dk/download/mwav.exe
(Scan everything )

Download Spybot search&destroy (install and check for updates)
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Download ScanSpyware (registr.number: 5426-7451-2543) (install and check for updates)
http://www.scanspyware.net/download.htm
(Complete Scan)

CCleaner (install)
http://www.ccleaner.com/
( Windows/Applications "Analyze" then "Run" on default settings )
( Issues - I was cautious at first but ended up FIXing everything - ask advice if unsure )

Feel free to PM me if links down, but you can pretty much search & find them as they're 'out there' all over the place.

Is it possible to put a * What to do before you post * post, detailing the HowTo & WhatTo of pre-post advice.  I know the "go get a HijackThis log" advice is all over in other posts, but could there be a point of reference that catches the initial browse - maybe a fourth TOPIC off the homepage ??  No need to be able to post to this topic, just stick in a "First, read & do this....." post containing the basics.  I am sure that most "newbie" 1st posts would contain a HJT log if this existed.  Just a suggestion.

THIRD ( ok I said 2, but what the heck )

This forum is the most together I have seen.  I may be a newbie to posting, but I have been an admirer for quite some time, using the info to sort my systems & help friends.  The advice here is usually spot on so the problems go away without ever needing to ask for help.  No software is 100%, does everything, even makes the tea!!!  That's why we have AntiVirus, AntiSpyware & a million other utilities.  Someone creates a problem, someone else creates a solution.  The Removers are always playing catch up.  So 'wtf', WTF is your problem ??????????????????????
